With more than a hundred attendees, on Tuesday, November 29 at 3:00 p.m., in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences, took place the Jean Monnet Workshop of the University of Cantabria on the Alliances of European Universities and the opportunities they offer to students. The European Union, as an essential element of its strategy on universities and with the aim of promoting the quality and competitiveness of the European university system, is promoting the creation of transnational alliances of universities (“European Universities”). 44 Alliances of European Universities are already underway, encompassing around 340 university institutions from 31 countries on our continent. Among them is the EUNICE Alliance, which includes the University of Cantabria, along with nine other universities.
The Jean Monnet Workshop featured a keynote speech by Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Director of Higher Education of the European Commission, who explained the motivation for which the European Commission is promoting the Alliances of European Universities as a strategic element within the project of European integration, and the ways in which this impulse is articulated.
Next, there was a round table on the opportunities offered to students by the Alliance of European Universities EUNICE, of which the University of Cantabria is a part. It featured speakers from several of the EUNICE universities, who addressed different topics in which they are specialized: Mouna Denden, representative of the EUNICE team from the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, who explained the joint academic offer that EUNICE makes available to students; Kerstin Maier, EUNICE Project Officer of the University of Cantabria, who addressed joint opportunities in terms of cultural activities, languages and global skills; and Cristina Satriano, EUNICE Project Leader from the Università de Catania (Italy), who explained the opportunities offered by EUNICE related to the connection with companies and entrepreneurship.
The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Government of Cantabria, Ana Belén Álvarez, and the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Global Commitment of the University of Cantabria, Matxalen Llosa. It was organized by the Jean Monnet Module on the Economic and Financial System and Regional Development (EUFIREG) of the University of Cantabria, in which the members of the ECONPOINT research group of the Department of Economics participate.
Attendance to the Jean Monnet Workshop was open to the entire university community and the public concerned. It could be followed in person in the Conference Hall (floor 0) of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences and online, through Microsoft Teams, open to the entire community of the ten universities that are part of the EUNICE Alliance.
