On April 17, 2024, Paulino Alonso, President of the Casa de Europa de Cantabria, participated in a practical activity with the students of European Economic Policy (Bachelor’s Degree in Economics). The activity had two parts: in the first part, Paulino Alonso presented his vision of European integration in relation to five issues of interest, previously selected by the professor of the subject; later, in a second part, the students of the subject debated on these five issues, organized in blocks. The issues addressed were the following: The future of the EU: a Federal Europe/United States of Europe or merely a Single Market? (block 1); A common European foreign policy and a European army, or do we leave foreign policy and defense in the hands of the States? (block 2); Fiscal harmonization at the European level or sovereignty of the States in fiscal matters? (block 3); A social policy at the European level or social policy exclusively for the States? (block 4); In the face of the green transition, a more active European regional policy, or less interventionism and letting market forces act? (block 5).
The activity is part of the Jean Monnet Workshop, which aims to invite a representative of the institutions or civil society to take part in a practical activity aimed at addressing a topic of European interest. The Casa de Europa de Cantabria is an organisation of representatives of civil society interested in European integration and in the political, economic and social issues relating to it.
