Activity on European policies at a local high school

Class on European policies given at the high school ‘IES Garcilaso de la Vega’ in Tanos (Torrelavega)

On April 1, the student of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Teacher Training Javier González Tapia gave a class on the evaluation of European policies at the IES Garcilaso de la Vega in Tanos (Torrelavega). He was accompanied by Lorea Romero, Ángela Saiz and Marcos Fernández, members of the Jean Monnet EUFIREG Module team, who contributed to the preparation and organization of the activity.

The class, in which some twenty first-year Baccalaureate students and their Economics teacher, Alberto Arias, participated, addressed the evaluation of the EU’s Sustainable Development Goals in the field of gender equality, following the format and content of a practical class at the University similar to those taught in the subjects that are part of the Module. In particular, Javier González explained the indicators used to evaluate these objectives, and then the students analyzed and explained the data of these indicators for various European countries, using the interactive tool available for this on the EUROSTAT website. The activity had an eminent practical and interactive character, and the students were highly satisfied.

The IES Garcilaso de la Vega is located in the neighborhoods of Tanos and Nueva Ciudad, in the municipality of Torrelavega (the second most populous city in Cantabria), and about 30 kilometers away from the headquarters and main buildings of the University of Cantabria.
