Workshop Jean Monnet ‘The future of Europe’ on March 23

On Wednesday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m., we held the Jean Monnet 2022 Workshop. It addressed the “The future of Europe”, a crucial issue of our time in view of the events that are taking place in Ukraine and the challenges that they pose for the European project. The event was a success thanks to the magnificent level of the speakers and the content of the interventions, so as the great reception the event had.

The Jean Monnet Workshop featured an invited talk by Jaume Duch, Spokesperson and General Director of Communication of the European Parliament, with the title “Ukraine, new geostrategic scenarios and the future of Europe: the vision from the European Parliament“. Next, a round table took place, which addressed the role of the regions in the future of Europe, with visions from three different areas: Sean O’Curneen (European Committee of the Regions); Inma Valencia (Office of the Government of Cantabria in Brussels); and Paulino Alonso (House of Europe Association in Cantabria).

The event, which was opened by the General Director of Local Administration and Foreign Action of the Government of Cantabria, Rosa Valdés, and the Vice-Rector for Internationalization of the University of Cantabria, Matxalen Llosa, was organized by the Jean Monnet Module on the Economic and Financial System and Regional Development (EUFIREG) of the University of Cantabria, in which the members of the ECONPOINT research group from the Economics Department participate.

Attendance at the Jean Monnet Workshop was open to the entire university community and the interested public.

The Jean Monnet 2022 Workshop could be followed in person at the Sala Gómez Laa (2nd floor of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences), for a maximum capacity of 75 people.

It could also be followed online, through Microsoft Teams, where more than 60 people were able to follow the entire event and interact with the speakers online.
